Faculty: THE ARTS

Welcome to The Arts Faculty

This faculty brings together art, dance, drama, music and design providing pupils with a wide range of exciting and enriching experiences ranging from samba drumming to creating sculptures or designing and making cool products.

Our emphasis is on the common strands of creativity and performance.  We seek to unlock each child’s potential by identifying and encouraging talent, by enabling each child to enjoy and achieve and by promoting disciplined and vigorous thinking and learning.

Within curriculum time, all subjects are taught separately by talented staff who actively engage young learners with a practical, hands-on approach to skill development.  Each subject follows a carefully structured and comprehensive course to equip our pupils with key skills and knowledge, preparing them for the worlds of work and leisure and immersing them in diverse cultural opportunities through which they may grow in their understanding as they take their place in today’s world.

In addition, we have special enrichment opportunities with a multidiscipline focus, such as our annual year 5 French day which draws together language, crafts, music, dance, games and drama in a celebration of all things French.

Pupils benefit from a variety of activities on offer at lunchtime or after school including art club, choir, dance club and orchestra and are encouraged to take part in competitions and festivals.  We also have a community choir which draws its members from our school community and the local community.  We have a growing culture of performance, showcasing budding talent for a variety of audiences culminating in our end of year production drawing in pupils from across the school and using their talents in art, craft, DT and music.
