English

English is the fundamental core of all other areas of the curriculum.
Through English, pupils learn the key skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening in order to become confident, effective communicators in a rapidly changing world.
We believe that all pupils have the ability to become successful learners and to achieve their full potential.
At MBMS, we aim to deliver a curriculum that engages pupils and that promotes a diversity of authors and experiences thereby fostering a love of the subject for our pupils. We believe that instilling a love of literature and language will enable our pupils to become independent, critical thinkers and writers; able to express themselves in a variety of contexts.
As reading is such an essential skill, we encourage our pupils to read widely and independently; to read to access all areas of the curriculum and for pleasure. Lessons centre around discussing and engaging with texts; how to analyse and how pupils can learn to express their ideas in an articulate manner.
Through reading a rich variety of literature, pupils will have an appreciation and empathetic view of the society in which we live.
