How we use Google
Information for parents and guardians
All staff and pupils at MBMS have Google Workspace accounts which are used evey day to communicate, collaborate, to teach and to learn.
Google Workspace provides a full suite of applications and in this guide we will cover the primary apps used by Marden Bridge pupils at school as well as providing instructions on how to use them effectively at home.

Primary Apps in Education
Gmail
All pupils ave a school email address which is used to sign into Google Workspace and all associated apps.
It is important to note that pupil email accounts are 'internal only', meaning that only those with a school account can contact pupils by email - unless they are within a pre-configured 'trusted' domain or organisation. Similarly, pupils cannot use their school email accounts to contact anyone outwith our school domain (mbms.org.uk).
School email accounts should never be associated with or used to open external accounts, such as social media or gaming accounts.
Classroom
Google Classroom is used frequently in school for all subjects and is also the platform used to set homework and send important information and announcements to pupils.
It should never be necessary to join a class using a 'class-code' as all pupils are pre-assigned to all active classrooms. When your child signs-in to Google Classroom using their school account, all their active classes should already be present. Guide - Sign in to Classroom
Google Guardians: If you have requested to be a guardian for your child you should receive an invitation in due course. As a guardian, you will receive email summaries of your child's progress in Classroom. This includes, missing work, upcoming work and class activites. Follow the link to learn more Google Guardians
Drive
Google Drive is a cloud-based storage service that enables users to store and access files online. The service syncs stored documents, photos and resources across all the user's devices, including mobile devices, tablets and PCs.
Google Drive integrates with all school Google Workspace apps and it's where we can create and store files and documents created in Google Docs, Sheets, slides, Forms and much more.
Each of your Child's classes in Google Classroom stores files and documents in a specific directory in Drive, meaning it's available whenever they are signed into their account - on any device. The directory remains in Drive even if the pupil moves class. Pupils are given extensive tuition on managing files and directories in Drive in their ICT lessons in school.
Docs, Sheets
& Slides
Google Docs, Sheets and Slides provide everything required to produce high quality documents, spreadsheets and presentations.
These powerful tools work together with other applications, such as Drawings and Forms and can be extended with a huge variety of add-ons and plug-ins. They can also be shared to allow collaboration so that pupils can work together on files and projects.

Signing in to Google Workspace
Windows and Mac
If using a computer, be it a PC or Mac, desktop or laptop, it is best to use Google Chrome and sign-in directly to the browser. Click on the 'user' icon - top, right of the page in Chrome and add the account. Video
On other browsers, such as Microsoft Edge or Safari, go to accounts.google.com and sign in there using your child's school account, which is usually in the format:
'firstName.lastName'@mbms.org.uk.
