How are form classes put together?

Marden Bridge has strong links with the feeder schools. Mrs Voisey, the head of Year 5, has contact with all the Year 4 colleagues at the feeder schools in order to discuss all of the children and to find out more about them as individuals. Mrs Richardson, the SENCO, will also attend these meetings to discuss appropriate children. The Year 4 staff also put the children into small groups based on their knowledge and expertise of the individuals. This is then used to place the children into their new Year 5 class. Children have then been assigned a form teacher.

How will my child be kept safe with regards to Covid 19?

MBMS will continue to work within government guidelines in order to keep all children, parents and staff safe. There is a rigorous effective risk assessment in place.

How does Marden help new children to settle in?

Marden Bridge prides itself as a caring school. The staff at Marden are friendly, approachable and caring; Class Dojo is used in Year 5 form classes (please see below for more information). Normally, new Year 5 classes are assigned Year 8 buddies who take the children around to their different classes, transition days, going into first schools, regular times during the day, protected lunchtime area for year 5s only. This year, class teachers have lead the children to their lessons.

Next year, how and when do I speak to my child's teacher?

You will be issued with a Class Dojo account (a safe teacher-parent communication app) in order to be able to directly communicate with your child's form teacher. You will be able to ask questions and arrange any meetings with them via this tool. Phone calls can also be made to our office and your child's teacher will get back to you as soon as possible.

If my child has a problem, who should they speak to?

Your child's form teacher will be their main point of contact. At breaks and lunch times, we have supervisors who are also available. If there is an issue with a specific lesson, their subject teacher would be the best person to speak to. However, MBMS is a very caring school and staff members are always approachable and will try to help or will point your child in the direction of someone who can.

What should I do if my child feels singled out or even feels bullied?

We take allegations of bullying very seriously and deal with them in an appropriate and timely manner. Children are encouraged to speak to their form teacher so that issues can be dealt with as quickly as possible. MBMS Bullying policy

What should I do if my child has lost something?

Please ensure that all of your child's uniform and equipment is clearly labelled with their name and form class. If your child has lost something, they can come and let our school office know and can check lost property. They will also be encouraged to look in the different areas of the school they have been. If the child still can't find their lost item, a message will be sent out to staff to ask the children in their class to keep an eye out.

What is the school uniform?

Please see the Uniform Guide

Can my child wear jewellery in school?

Jewellery and make-up should not be worn in school. Again, please see our Uniform Guide

Do you have after school clubs?

Yes. You can view the OSHL programme from the Autumn term. Please be aware that it may change due to social distancing regulations but we will endeavour to make our programme as wide ranging and exciting as ever.

How do I find out about my child's progress?

You will find about your child's progress termly. In the first term you will be invited to a parent-teacher consultation where you can speak to your child's subject teachers (this may be dependent on social distancing practises down the line. You will be updated on this). You will then receive an interim report in the second term and a final Summer report in the final term. Subject teachers are also available for discussions if you have any queries. You would contact the office in order to arrange either a telephone appointment or face to face meeting.

What before/ after school care provision is available?

We have Breakfast Club before school and The Den after school provision (both of which incur a small cost).

How can parents get involved in the life of the school?

We are really proud of the strong and effective PTA which are an important part of our school community, you will be given more information about attending meetings (in a safe manner) in September.
